Enjoyment, History & Gentle River Paths
Leisure Cycling on the Neckar Valley Cycle Route
Gentle river valleys, steep vineyard slopes, medieval towns and constant views of water, forests and half-timbered houses – the Neckar Valley Cycle Route is one of Germany’s most beautiful river cycling routes. Over around 370 kilometres, it follows the Neckar from its source in the Schwenninger Moos to its confluence with the Rhine near Mannheim. Travelling here means discovering Baden-Württemberg at its most diverse: sometimes quiet and green, sometimes lively and rich in history.
Between Tübingen, Stuttgart and Heidelberg, castles and palaces line the route like pearls on a string. Half-timbered towns, vineyard landscapes and historic old centres invite you to pause and enjoy the moment. The cycle path runs largely flat along the river, making it ideal for relaxed stages with plenty of time for exploring, sightseeing and stopping at local cafés or wine taverns.
As a bike & boat tour, the Neckar offers a truly special experience. Your floating hotel accompanies you along navigable sections of the river, while you explore the surrounding landscapes by bike. This creates a perfect balance of active travel and relaxation, combining culture, comfort and nature in a particularly enjoyable way.
The Neckar by Bike & Boat
The Neckar Valley Cycle Route runs almost entirely flat through vineyards, forests and narrow river bends. Castles, palaces and half-timbered towns line the way – from Heidelberg via Neckarsteinach and Eberbach to Bad Wimpfen. Each stage is a harmonious mix of nature, history and culinary pleasure.
Along the route, charming wine villages and peaceful riverside spots invite you to linger. In the evening, you return on board your ship to panoramic views, regional wines and the calm rhythm of the river.
