Cycling Without Borders Between River Landscapes and History
The Oder–Neisse Cycle Route runs along Germany’s eastern border from the foothills of the Zittau Mountains all the way to Ahlbeck on the Baltic Sea. Around 630 kilometres of unspoilt nature, rich culture and authentic landscapes await.
The route mostly follows quiet riverbanks, winding through floodplains, forests and open countryside, past monasteries, castles and beautifully preserved medieval towns. Encounters with history are a constant highlight: the lovingly restored old town of Görlitz, the baroque monastery of Neuzelle, or the Lower Oder Valley National Park, home to cranes and white-tailed eagles.
Few cycle routes offer such a sense of tranquillity, space and genuine natural beauty. One day you ride across historic cobbled streets, the next along modern dykes with sweeping views across the river into Poland. Cycling along a natural border, you quickly discover how much the landscapes – and cultures – on both banks have in common.
