Itinerary

Boarding begins at 1:00 p.m. in Amsterdam. At approximately 2:00 p.m., the ship will sail via the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal to Wijk bij Duurstede on the Lower Rhine. You will spend your first night there.

Colorful tulips in yellow, white, pink and red bloom in foreground with Amsterdam canal and historic buildings in blurred background.

During breakfast, your ship will take you to Wageningen. There, you’ll begin your first bike tour through the flat river valley of the Lower Rhine and the forests and heathlands of Veluwe National Park. In the afternoon, you’ll cycle through the outskirts—with beautiful parks such as Sonsbeek and Zijpendaal—on your way to Arnhem. Overnight stay near the city center.

During breakfast, the ship continues on to Doesburg, a small Hanseatic town. From here, there are two options for cycling to Zutphen and Deventer. Both routes first head to Bronkhorst, which prides itself on being the smallest town in the Netherlands. From Bronkhorst, the shorter route takes you by ferry to the west bank of the IJssel, while the longer route stays on the east bank. Both routes take you through the countryside to Zutphen. Both routes end in Deventer, which is known for its delicious spiced gingerbread. In the evening, the tour guide offers a short, guided city tour that you won’t want to miss!

During breakfast, the De Nassau will take you to Wijhe, where a beautiful bike ride to Hattem begins. The shorter route follows the riverbank, while the longer bike ride takes you through the eastern Veluwe region. Hattem has a rich history, traces of which are still visible everywhere today. From Hattem, it’s just a short distance to Zwolle. This city is considered one of the most beautiful Hanseatic cities. From Zwolle, the journey continues to Kampen. In the evening, you can explore the highlights of this largest Hanseatic city in the Netherlands on your own.

From Kampen, our bike tour takes us along the “Randseen” to the fishing harbor of Elburg. During the summer, there are many popular water sports activities here. From Elburg, the bike tour continues through the forests and marshes of the Veluwe to beautiful Harderwijk, where you’ll spend the night in the historic fishing harbor. In the 16th century, Harderwijk had the largest fish market in the Zuiderzee region. Today, it’s still a beautiful old town that’s well worth exploring.

Once again, you have a choice of two routes. A shorter cycle route along the banks of the ‘Randmeren’, or a combination of the riverside route and a longer alternative that runs through the neighbouring woods. In the afternoon, you’ll pass Spakenburg, a fishing village known for its traditional costumes, which are still worn today. Tonight’s mooring is in Huizen.

After breakfast, disembark by 9:30 a.m. and make your own way home.

Tour operator: Boat Bike Tours, Aambeeldstraat 20, 1021 KB, Amsterdam.

Minimum number of participants: 15 people, confirmed 21 days prior to arrival. You may cancel your trip at any time after booking. Please refer to the terms and conditions for cancellation fees.

Bringing Your Own Bikes: Due to limited space on the sun deck, bringing your own bike is only possible upon request and subject to availability. For safety reasons, it is not possible to charge the batteries of your own e-bikes in your cabin. The crew will inform you where you can charge your battery on deck or on board. In this case, the ship’s crew and the tour operator are not liable for any damage, loss, or theft of your own bicycle or e-bike.

Schedules and programs are subject to change without notice. If, for example, a section of the route cannot be navigated due to low water, high water, or bad weather, the captain reserves the right to change the route for your safety (this does not constitute grounds for a free cancellation). The same applies to lock and/or bridge repairs ordered by authorities that were not announced in advance.

Additional Information Please keep in mind that your riverboat is, on the one hand, your “vacation hotel,” but on the other hand, it is also a working vessel that is powered by engines and must be operated continuously, even at night (including lock and bridge passages). We recommend that guests who are particularly sensitive to noise bring earplugs. Passing through locks involves some disruption and, unfortunately, cannot be avoided.

Travel Documents EU citizens (who do not have any special circumstances, such as dual citizenship, primary residence abroad, or provisionally issued travel documents) require a valid ID card or passport for this trip, which must remain valid for at least 6 months after the end of the trip. If you hold another citizenship or multiple citizenships, or if you are subject to special legal requirements, please check with your relevant consulate regarding the applicable visa and entry requirements.

This trip is not suitable for people with limited mobility.

We recommend purchasing international health insurance that includes repatriation, as well as accident, baggage, and trip cancellation insurance.
