Holland meets Belgium

This trip combines cultural highlights and scenic areas in Holland and Flanders. On flat cycle paths, you will cycle in stages from the cosmopolitan city of Amsterdam to Bruges, the Venice of the North.

In Holland, impressive country houses, cheese farms, and the 19 windmills of Kinderdijk line your route.

In Belgium, the Flemish cities of Antwerp, Ghent, and Bruges take center stage – gabled and patrician houses, narrow alleys, and a rich cultural past that is still evident today in architecture and painting.

Enjoy this river cruise in a cozy, informal atmosphere in a small group. While you cycle through the beautiful countryside, the ship follows you on rivers and canals, then awaits you at the end of your day's cycling as your hotel ship.

And if you don't feel like cycling, you can enjoy the scenery from the ship.

Travel Details

Individual arrival in Amsterdam and embarkation from 2:00 p.m. The crew will welcome you on board. The ship will then depart from Amsterdam to Vianen, a small fortified town on the River Lek (Lower Rhine). After dinner and the distribution of bicycles, you can take a short test ride there.

Today, you will cycle along a beautiful route to the silver town of Schoonhoven, a town that has been home to many talented silversmiths since the 17th century. Later, you will continue cycling along the Lek, then cross the Alblasserwaard Polder and reach Kinderdijk, surely the highlight of the day. Kinderdijk is famous for its impressive row of 19 windmills and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site; you can visit one of these windmills, so don't forget your camera! You will cover the last stretch by “water bus”: in about 10 minutes, you will travel from Alblasserdam (near Kinderdijk) to Dordrecht, one of the oldest cities in Holland.

During breakfast, the ship will sail to Willemstad, where you will set off on your next bike tour. Your bike tour will take you to Tholen, once an island surrounded by the great rivers of the province of Zeeland, which was often flooded. Today, Tholen is connected to the mainland, but it is still a picturesque little town.

You will then cycle on to the destination of this trip – Bergen op Zoom. Bergen op Zoom is a historic fortified town that once stood on the open waters of the Oosterschelde. After dinner, you can take a stroll through the old town. Narrow alleys, old town squares, marketplaces, church squares, and idiosyncratic monumental buildings reveal the history of a rich and eventful past that dates back more than eight hundred years.

In the morning, you will take a short bike ride through the beautiful “Wouwse Plantage” around Bergen op Zoom. In the early afternoon, you will board the ship again and continue through the impressive Kreekrak locks to Belgium, to the port city of Antwerp. The city is considered the world capital of the diamond trade and offers countless sights, including the town hall, one of the many magnificent Renaissance buildings, the historic Grote Markt square, the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe cathedral, and the medieval stone castle. Your tour guide will reveal their best restaurant tips for a delicious dinner in Bruges today (no dinner on board).

In the morning, you will cycle along a beautiful route out of Antwerp and along the picturesque tidal river Scheldt to Sint-Amands, where you will spend the night. The landscape around the Scheldt can be described in just one word: breathtaking! This part of the tour is undoubtedly one of the natural highlights.

Today, you continue your journey along the Scheldt and cycle to Ghent, a university city with a rich history (mooring at the Merelbeke lock, approx. 30 minutes by bike from Ghent's old town). The city was founded in Roman times at the confluence of the Leie and Scheldt rivers. Its favorable location brought great prosperity for many years, reaching its peak at the end of the 13th and beginning of the 14th centuries. Before dinner, you can take a guided canal tour through the historic city.

Today's final bike tour takes you through the enchanting Flemish countryside of West Flanders to Bruges, also known as the “Venice of the North.” The beautiful city of Bruges is often referred to as the most beautiful Flemish city. Its medieval old town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. There is plenty to do while you are here. You can visit one of the many museums or simply relax and enjoy the atmosphere of this unique and unforgettably beautiful city with a coffee in one of the many nice street cafés.

After breakfast, disembarkation by 9:30 a.m. and individual journey home.

Bringing your own bikes Due to limited space on the sun deck, bringing your own bike is only possible on request and to a limited extent. For safety reasons, it is not possible to charge the batteries of your own electric bikes in your cabin. The crew will inform you where you can charge your battery on deck/on board. In this case, the ship's crew and the organizer are not liable for any damage, loss, or theft of your own bicycle or e-bike.

Timetable and program changes are subject to change. If, for example, a route cannot be navigated due to low water, high water, or bad weather, the captain reserves the right to change the route for your safety (this is not a reason for free cancellation). The same applies to lock and/or bridge repairs ordered by the authorities that were not announced in advance.

Other information Please bear in mind that your riverboat is not only your “vacation hotel” but also a working vessel that is powered by engines and must be operated continuously, even at night (in some cases with lock and bridge passages). We recommend that guests who are particularly sensitive to noise bring earplugs. Passing through locks causes disruption and unfortunately cannot be avoided.

Travel documents EU citizens (who do not have any special circumstances, e.g., dual citizenship, primary residence abroad, or temporarily issued travel documents) require a valid ID card or passport for this trip, which must be valid for at least 6 months after the end of the trip. If you have a different citizenship or multiple citizenships, or if you have to comply with special legal requirements, please check the respective visa and entry requirements with your local consulate.

This trip is not suitable for people with limited mobility.

We recommend taking out international health insurance with repatriation, accident, baggage, and travel cancellation insurance.
